Japan provides 20 pick-up trucks for flood relief efforts

The government of Japan has given 20 pick-up trucks and other equipment to the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare to enable local officials to provide more support when dealing with the aftermath of floods.
In addition to the vehicles, portable water purifiers and equipment used to locate survivors was donated.
The items were provided through grant aid of 1 billion yen under the Japan Grant Aid for the Economic and Social Development Programme in Laos.
The donated items were handed over by the Ambassador of Japan to Laos, Mr Kenichi Kobayashi, to the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Mrs Baykham Khattiya.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ambassador Kobayashi said “We hope that this equipment will be useful for the Lao government to cope with current and future natural disasters.”
“Japan will further support the Lao government by making use of our experience and knowledge in the field of disaster management and prevention.”
Japan has provided 20 pick-up trucks and 20 sets of spare parts, 11 ambulances and six sets of spare parts, and 18 trucks with 18 sets of spare parts.
The assistance package also included 100 rescue boats with 100 sets of spare parts,100 anchors, 52 boat tugs, several hundred water filters, and five motorcycles.
